Oil Spill from an Oil Tanker in the Arabian Gulf, UAE

An oil spill occurred from a very large crude carrier (VLCC) 25 kilometers off the coast of the Emirate of Umm Al-Quwain in the UAE. The oil slick formed by the spill is drifting southwest toward the coast with the ocean currents. Residents in the northern emirates—including Dubai, Sharjah, and Ajman—have recently reported a strong, pungent odor of fuel in the air, which is attributed to this oil spill. Officials state that the current concentration of pollutants in the air does not pose an acute health risk at this time, but they have advised the public to stay away from coastlines where oil may have drifted ashore and to avoid contact with the spilled crude oil.
