Minke Whale Found Stranded and Dead in Chile’s Lake District

A minke whale was found stranded and dead in the Princes Marine Reserve in Chile’s Lake District. The whale was an adult, approximately 12 meters long, with multiple skin injuries caused by friction from the stranding. The sei whale is a Class II protected species in Chile, and the southern Chilean waters serve as a critical overwintering migration route for the species. In recent years, shipping and offshore industrial activities in these waters have continued to increase, and the pressure from marine pollution has risen year by year, leading to a growing trend in the frequency of whale strandings.
