Sudden Forest Fire Erupts on Spain’s Costa del Sol

A wildfire broke out in the town of Benahavís on the Costa del Sol in the Andalusia region of southern Spain. Hot, dry weather fueled the rapid spread of the fire, causing the burned area to expand rapidly. Large plumes of grayish-black smoke from the wildfire were carried by the wind, blanketing several surrounding towns, including Marbella. Local PM10 and PM2.5 concentrations spiked briefly, and air quality dropped to unhealthy levels.
