According to a South African marine research assessment released on October 6, following the rerouting of the Red Sea shipping lane, a large number of ships are now passing through the Cape of Good Hope, increasing the risk of whale collisions with vessels fourfold. Several Bryde’s whales killed by propeller strikes have been found near the coast.
