Most of England is experiencing drought conditions, with rainfall this month reaching only 7% of the long-term average. The prolonged drought has caused river flows to shrink significantly, and the environmental capacity and self-purification ability of water bodies continue to decline. Meteorological authorities have issued a warning that some areas will experience short-term heavy rainfall next week. Large amounts of agricultural fertilizers, such as nitrogen and phosphorus fertilizers, have accumulated on the surface of farmland exposed by the drought. Rainwater runoff will rapidly wash these nutrients into rivers, making it highly likely to trigger water eutrophication and foster blue-green algae blooms, thereby threatening freshwater ecosystems and the safety of coastal water supplies.
