The forest fire situation in the Arcachon Basin—located in the Gironde department in southwestern France, near Bordeaux—continues to worsen. The area burned has expanded to 3,700 hectares, and more than 20,000 residents have been evacuated as a precaution. The ongoing fires continue to emit particulate matter and volatile organic compounds, and thick smoke has spread, blanketing numerous towns along the Atlantic coast and causing a significant deterioration in regional air quality.
