China Drives Key Negotiations on the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty

In recent follow-up negotiations to the United Nations Environment Assembly, China has upheld the principle of extended producer responsibility, calling on multinational plastic companies to assume responsibility throughout the entire product lifecycle. The country has focused on finalizing the text of the Global Plastic Pollution Treaty, opposed blanket bans, advocated for differentiated responsibilities, promoted the regulation of transboundary movements of plastic waste, and sought to prevent the disguised transfer of “foreign waste.”
