Cholera Outbreak in Sudan Due to Contaminated Drinking Water

As of February 2025, nearly two years into the armed conflict in Sudan, 90% of healthcare facilities in the capital city of Khartoum have been paralyzed, drinking water contamination is at 76%, and more than 10,000 new cholera cases have been reported in a single week. More than 12.9 million people, or 27% of the country’s total population, have been displaced, 500,000 refugees have been given food rations of less than 400 grams per day, families have been forced to subsist on insects and roots, and the maternal mortality rate has risen twelve-fold compared to the pre-conflict rate.
