Consultation on the rule of law for the environment and the promotion of green development

The Supreme People’s Court of China, together with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the European Environmental Protection Association (EEPA), co-organized the seminar, which focused on such topics as the codification of the ecological and environmental code, the system of public interest litigation in the environment, and the rules for adjudicating green transformation and green finance cases, with participants sharing their experiences and making suggestions for the rule of law to serve the construction of an ecological civilization. Inger Anderson, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of the United Nations Environment Programme, spoke highly of the contribution of China’s Supreme People’s Court in the field of environmental justice, and believed that the important cases contributed by China’s Supreme Court provide valuable resources for judges and legal practitioners around the world. Adam Wise, President of the Global Program of the European Environmental Protection Association, also emphasized the importance of international cooperation in building the rule of law for the environment.
