Amazon Leads New Eco-Friendly Trend: Phasing Out Plastic Bubble Mats

E-commerce giant Amazon announced in a blog post on October 9, 2024 that it is no longer using plastic bubble wrap in packaging at all of its distribution centers around the world as of that month. The move was in response to calls from environmental organizations to reduce plastic pollution in the oceans. Plastic film, the main ingredient in plastic bubble wrap, is the most common type of plastic waste found near coastlines and poses a serious threat to marine life, especially large mammals such as whales and dolphins. Back in 2022, Amazon was the first in Europe to replace plastic bubble mats and disposable delivery bags with paper and cardboard packaging.
