19th Discharge of Radioactive Water from Fukushima, Japan, Completed

On April 20, Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) discharged 7,800 tons of radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean (the first round of fiscal year 2026 and the 19th discharge overall). This batch primarily contained radioactive nuclides such as tritium (1.9 trillion becquerels), strontium-90, and carbon-14. It is estimated that the contamination will cover half of the Pacific Ocean within 57 days and spread to global waters within 10 years.
