A radioactive water leak has occurred at the Fukui Prefecture’s Fukui Nuclear Power Plant in Tsuruga City, where the Fugen reactor is currently undergoing decommissioning. The leaked water contains radioactive substances including tritium, with the exact volume and composition still under investigation. Following the incident, Japanese authorities dispatched specialized teams to seal the leak and increased monitoring frequency of surrounding air, soil, and water. However, the international community has raised concerns about safety management during Japan’s nuclear facility decommissioning process, urging stricter measures to ensure nuclear safety and prevent ecological damage and public health risks from contamination spread.
