Humanitarian disaster continues to escalate in the Gaza Strip

The 11-week Israeli blockade has plunged the Gaza Strip into a state of “catastrophic hunger”, with the United Nations World Food Program reporting that 470,000 people are facing the highest levels of food insecurity, with the potential for famine to break out between May and September. With only a small amount of aid currently entering and UN personnel unable to enter Gaza to complete distributions due to Israeli restrictions, 14,000 infants could die within 48 hours due to lack of food and medical support. More than 28,000 women and girls have died since the October 2023 conflict, an average of one woman every hour.
