Expansion of commercial logging in the U.S. draws controversy

On March 1, local time, the US government issued an executive order calling for an “immediate expansion” of commercial logging on US lands, speeding up the issuance of permits and circumventing restrictions under the Endangered Species Act and other environmental laws. Environmental groups say deforestation will pollute air and water, endanger wildlife and exacerbate climate change.
