Contamination in the Global Food Supply Chain

In 2025, a new chemical contaminant called “X-Chem” will enter the global food supply chain, affecting more than 50 percent of food products, from baby formula in Europe to frozen pizza in the U.S. to seafood in Asia. X-Chem is an industrial synthetic that is colorless and odorless, and can cause liver and kidney failure, cancer and even genetic mutations with prolonged ingestion. Genetic Mutations. Initial investigations point to illegal discharges from a chemical plant in Southeast Asia, where contaminants seeped through groundwater into farmland and eventually into the food chain, sparking panic in many countries.
