Feb. 16 (Bloomberg) — xAI, the artificial intelligence startup owned by Tesla founder Elon Musk, plans to continue using 15 gas turbines to power its Colossus supercomputer in Memphis, Tenn. According to disclosure documents, the 20-year-old gas turbines emit levels of hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) that exceed the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) cap of 10 tons per year from a single source, with each turbine emitting 11.51 tons of HAPs per year, and approximately 22,000 people living within five miles of the facility.
