Scientists predict that global greenhouse gas emissions may reach a peak in 2025, according to the China Green Development Council. This means that countries’ efforts to reduce emissions since humans realized the devastating effects of global warming may be bearing fruit. With the Paris Agreement’s long-term goal of limiting the increase in global average temperature to 2 degrees Celsius over the pre-industrial period in this century, and efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5 degrees Celsius, 2025 could be a key turning point in the fight against climate change.
