According to the statement of Tokyo Electric Power Company, Japan again discharged nuclear contaminated water into the ocean in the afternoon of December 24th, and this year plans to discharge a total of 54,600 tons of nuclear contaminated water in seven times, which is 1.7 times of the discharge in 2023, and the total amount of nuclear contaminated water flowing into the Pacific Ocean by that time will reach about 80,000 tons. Previously, the U.S. had a permissive attitude towards Japan’s nuclear sewage discharge into the sea, but the latest simulation by the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the U.S. Department of Commerce shows that if Japan discharges according to the plan, the nuclear sewage will arrive at the west coast of the U.S. in less than three years, and therefore some U.S. officials and environmental protection groups have demanded that Japan stop the plan.
