The Brazilian Federal Government launched Operation Amapá Oasis on August 1 in the city of Macapá, capital of the state of Amapá, with the aim of protecting the Amazon rainforest from the threat of fire during the Brazilian dry season. More than 700 firefighters are expected to be mobilized in seven municipalities in the state of Amapá, with measures such as ground and aerial patrols, among others, and the special operation will last until December 11th.
