On October 20, 2024, at the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) General Assembly, Guterres called on member states to invest heavily in the International Fund for Nature Conservation (IFNC). The planet’s biodiversity is being severely damaged by human activities, with species extinctions accelerating and ecosystem imbalances threatening the very foundation of human existence. Such investment is of great significance, as it can help build protected areas, conserve and breed endangered species, restore ecosystems and conduct scientific research, and highlights the centrality of global cooperation, so that countries can work together to break through the many barriers and build a common line of defense for the protection of biodiversity.
