“Begonia” Returns to the Sea: The Miracle of Life and Hope

On January 3, 2024, a male short-limbed pilot whale was injured and stranded in the waters of Sanya Haitang Bay, and was sent to Sanya Haichang Marine Life Conservation Center for rescue and treatment, and was named “Begonia”. After more than 4 months of careful treatment and care by conservation staff, veterinarians, experts and more than 100 caring volunteers, “Begonia” is getting better and better, and on May 26th, “Begonia” was successfully released back to the sea in Sanya, Hainan, which is the first case of successful treatment and release to the wild in the history of China’s rescue! On May 26, “Haitang” was successfully released into the sea in Sanya, Hainan, which is the first case of short-limbed pilot whale successfully rescued and released into the wild in China’s rescue history, and also an important breakthrough in the field of global rescue.
