Oil spill in northwestern Peru

In December 2024, an oil spill occurred in the Lovitos region of northwestern Peru, affecting multiple beaches and threatening the local ecosystem and tourism industry. The spill occurred near PetroPeru’s Talara refinery, where the company’s vessels detected the leak and suspended operations while conducting pre-loading operations related to oil.
