The Brazilian Development Bank (BNDES) will launch an initiative in 2024 to restore degraded or destroyed woodlands in the Amazon rainforest covering 60,000 square kilometers by 2030, Reuters reported on December 1, 2023. The initiative, which will provide up to 1 billion reais ($205 million) in funding in 2024, will also seek to capture 1.65 billion tons of carbon from the atmosphere by 2030.
