Sinking of New Zealand warship: environmental impacts of concern

The New Zealand warship Manawanu sank at 9 a.m. on 9 October 2024 in the waters of the South Pacific island nation of Samoa. Although all 75 people on board have been rescued, the New Zealand Defense Force is working with the local government to assess the environmental impact of the sinking on the region, such as potential environmental contamination issues such as possible fuel leaks.
