Every year, thousands of cetaceans in the vast ocean world face a huge survival crisis. Take the large, graceful humpback whales, but many of them are not immune. These innocent cetaceans are often trapped by something special: fishing equipment that has been lost or discarded in the ocean. These devices seem to be silent killers, they have a chilling name – “ghost fishing gear”. Ghost fishing gear lurks silently in the oceans, where it is not supposed to be. Theoretically, this hazard from human negligence is entirely preventable.
If people were more careful in handling fishing equipment, if management measures were better, and if awareness of the protection of the marine environment was deeply rooted in people’s hearts, then ghost fishing gears might not have appeared. However, the reality is cruel, although we know it can be avoided, but it is still like a lingering haze, mercilessly shrouding the living space of marine life. Without realizing it, it has cruelly taken away the precious lives of countless marine animals. Those lives that were originally free to travel and play happily in the ocean have been plunged into endless pain and despair because of the existence of ghost fishing gear.
