PFAS levels in the waters of the Solent in southern England exceed regulatory limits by up to 13 times. Discharges from two wastewater treatment plants in Portsmouth and leachate from old landfills are the primary sources of pollution. Elevated levels of PFAS have been widely detected in the livers of porpoises and in fish caught in nearby waters.
