The Washington State Department of Environmental Protection has fined Amazon and Walmart over $1.1 million for illegally selling automotive air conditioning refill cans containing highly hazardous hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs). This greenhouse gas has a global warming potential 1,430 times that of CO₂, and leaks from these products continue to exacerbate global warming, making them a significant source of industrial climate-changing pollutants in the United States.
