EU air quality report: worrying pollution situation in Italy

The European Commission and the European Environment Agency (EEA) recently released their second “Zero Pollution Monitoring and Outlook Report”. The report states that while air quality in many EU countries is better than the air quality standards set by the World Health Organization, the situation in member states such as Italy and Poland is worrying. Only five Italian regions meet EU air quality standards, with the other 15 regions on the peninsula above the air quality limits set by the EU. Every year 48,600 Italians die from fine particulate matter pollution, 13,600 from ozone pollution and 9,600 from nitrogen dioxide pollution.
