The fires are concentrated in the southern regions of Apui and Novo Aripu\u00e3, where a combined total of 746 hotspots\u2014more than half of the state\u2019s total\u2014have been recorded. The Amazon is currently in its dry season, and high temperatures combined with low humidity have increased the flammability of vegetation.
