Brazil&#8217;s planned trans-Amazonian highway could further accelerate deforestation, while illegal mining in the Kayap\u00f3 indigenous territory of Par\u00e1 state has already destroyed 18,000 hectares of forest\u2014four times the devastation in the Yanomami region.
